These publications were originally distributed to raise funds and render aid and comforts to Schutztruppen in the German colonies. With the outbreak of war, these items were used to fan patriotic fervour with tales from the outposts, and were used as propaganda for the war effort. This edition was published while the war in Tanganyika were still ongoing, and the undefeated von Lettow-Vorbeck was the hero of the day, who was to be feted by the organisation on his return in 1919.
